Two experiments were done on what tastes newborn babies like. In one, babies were given both plain and sweetened water at different times. While they accepted the plain water, they always tried harder to drink the sugar water. In the other, they were given plain water immediately after sweetened water. In this latter case, they tried to refuse the unsweetened water. These facts show that even very young babies strongly prefer sweet tastes.
